Pine Round Logs
Pines, belonging to the genus Pinus in the family Pinaceae, are evergreen, coniferous resinous trees that play a significant role in the timber and wood pulp industries. These trees typically grow between 3 to 80 meters tall, with most species reaching heights of 15 to 45 meters. Pine Round Logs
Characteristics of Pine Wood Logs
Pine trees exhibit various unique features:
- Bark and Branches: The bark of most pines is thick and scaly, although some species have thin, flaking bark. The branches are produced in regular “pseudo whorls,” which are actually very tight spirals that appear as if a ring of branches arises from the same point.
- Commercial Importance: Pines are among the most commercially valuable tree species worldwide. Their wood is used for pulp and sawn timber products. Pine plantations can be established through planting, sowing, or natural regeneration. The commercial rotation period for pine varies from 50 to 120 years, with longer rotations in northeastern areas where growth is slower.
- Wood Properties: Pine wood is pale brown to red-brown and is commonly used for general construction work. It has a dry density of approximately 470 kg/m³, an open porosity of 60%, a fiber saturation point of 0.25 kg/kg, and a saturation moisture content of 1.60 kg/kg.
- Textile Production: Pine fibers are used to produce a textile known as vegetable flannel, which has a hemp-like appearance but with a tighter, softer texture. Pine Round Logs
